WORLD INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY

Selangor has been chosen to be a host for World Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration
at the national level this year. The two days event will be held at Sepang Goldcoast
from 7 August 2010 to 8 August 2010 with the collaboration of Tourism Selangor and
Indigenous Peoples network of Malaysia (JOAS).
The Indigenous Peoples Day is basically a day of family fun, with a strong emphasis
on the celebration of cultural heritage and tradition. Apart from traditional dances
from Temuan, Semai and Mah Meri communities, there will be various stalls selling
and displaying Orang Asli crafts and skills. The traditional sports also took place
such as blowpipe competition. This year, the indigenous peoples from Sabah and Sarawak
will also participate to present their cultural heritage and tradition.
